$300 million development of Melbourne’s South Wharf precinct 20,000sqm expansion 331-room hotel 150-space, multi-storey car park

Probuild delivered the $300 million expansion of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) and broader South Wharf precinct, for Plenary Group in 2018.

The 20,000m2 MCEC expansion integrates with existing spaces and includes an additional 9,000m2 of flexible expansion space. The multi-purpose space has retractable seating for up to 1,100 people; service pods, meeting rooms and informal meeting spaces, as well as a large concourse and banquet room with capacity to cater for up to 450 people.

The expansion also included construction of a 331-room Novotel hotel, adding a new tier of accommodation to the precinct, complementing the existing Hilton South Wharf hotel. The expansion also included a 1,150-space, multi-storey car park and a concourse and pedestrian bridge linking the precinct with South Melbourne and the Yarra River.
