Melbourne CBD’s tallest tower employs innovative new formwork solution.

January 2018

Due to standing at more than 271m tall, Aurora Melbourne Central will be the tallest tower in Melbourne’s CBD.

Constructing a project of this magnitude requires careful thought in regards to safety, specifically, managing weather conditions as the project grows vertically. Probuild engaged Doka Group to co-develop an innovative new formwork solution to protect against weather and also aid in the installation of the building's curtain wall.

The screens provide protection around levels of the building, without the curtain wall yet installed, to protect construction workers against weather elements like wind. The implementation of a platform system within the protection screen has allowed the construction team to install the façade glazing panels completely within the building, reducing the safety risk to both construction workers and the general public.

The introduction of these two systems has seen record levels of daily curtain-wall panel installation, despite Aurora's intricate shape.
