UNO Melbourne, a 65-level mixed-use development including homes ‘in the sky’, has now commenced construction in the heart of Melbourne CBD.
Before UNO Melbourne can rise up to join Melbourne’s skyline, it has first taken a historical journey back into Melbourne’s past through detailed archaeology – uncovering some 200,000+ artefacts.
The archaeology process commenced in February 2020, and it has progressively peeled back the layers to unearth signs of early Melbourne settlement, the original landform below it and provides opportunity to learn more about our First Nations People.
Over six months some 1,369 tonnes of soil was excavated by hand and with small machines.
A dedicated team of archaeologists worked tirelessly throughout to document the history of this area and prepare the site for future generations to come. Probuild is excited to be involved in the slice of history.
With the pilling rig now onsite, the ground works include the installation of 81 retention piles and 19 foundation piles at a maximum depth of 23 metres. These piles will form the foundation to support this 65 storey tower.
Scheduled to complete in 2023, it will house over 630 high quality homes in the sky, and will contain a suite of luxurious residential amenities as well as a cafe, community childcare centre and mixed-use retail spaces. This project will contribute significantly to the local economy by employing over 1,000 people and utilise local supply chains.
