MYER Melbourne

Myer Melbourne Redevelopment

Myer’s new $225m flagship store in Bourke Street was Probuild’s largest and most demanding and complex project to date.

The store’s centrepiece is a stunning light-filled atrium extending from ground floor to a spectacular glass skylight ceiling at level 7.  The original Bourke Street façade has been restored and the historic Mural Hall has been refurbished to its former glory.

Located in the CBD’s busiest area, the project required full public access and trading to continue during construction, which called for significant protection and staging, including 28 separate Milestone Dates and seven separable portions.

The project also incorporated heritage elements, removal of extensive hazardous material and huge logistical challenges, being located between Bourke Street Mall and the very busy Little Bourke Street.  The existing store comprised five separate buildings, which had to be merged into one, requiring building and demolition to be carried out concurrently throughout the project’s duration.
